Starting Monday, May 3 – Concacaf Gears Up for 2021 Futsal Championship (CFC)

The 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship (CFC) is set to kick off on May 3rd in Guatemala as nations seek a ticket to the FIFA Futsal World Cup scheduled for September. A total of 13 nations will compete for four spots to represent Concacaf in Lithuania this fall. USA takes on Nicaragua on Tuesday, May 4th, 2021, 2:00 PM – local time of venue.

FUTSAL NEWS: With the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup approaching, international federations are filling out the countries that will travel to Lithuania this fall to represent their region.

Next on the list of international futsal competitions is the 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship (CFC).

The 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship is set to take place May 3-9, 2021 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and many of the protagonists from past editions will be looking to lift this year’s trophy. In the history of the competition across six editions, only three teams have won the title. Costa Rica are the most decorated nation in the history of the CFC, with three titles. The Ticos won the second tournament in 2000 when they defeated Cuba in the Final, 2-0. The Central Americans have also won the last two editions in 2012 and 2016 when they defeated Guatemala, 3-2, and Panama, 4-0, respectively, in the Final. Not far behind on the all-time CFC titles list is the United States, who won the inaugural tournament in 1996 by topping Cuba in the Final, 7-3. Eight years later in the 2004 CFC the U.S. achieved the same feat with a 2-0 victory over the Cubans in the Final.

The U.S. also have two third-place finishes to their name, coming in 2000 and 2008.

In recent days, the 13 member associations participating in the 2021 CFC submitted their final rosters. Originally slated for 16 teams, the competition will now feature 13 teams after withdrawals of French Guiana, Martinique and Guadeloupe.

The 2021 CFC will take place in Guatemala City, Guatemala, from May 3-9. All matches will take place at the Domo Polideportivo, a venue that has a long history of hosting international futsal competitions, including the 2000 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

In accordance with competition regulations, changes to the final rosters will only be allowed in the event of force majeure or injury. Any changes made must be prior to each team’s first group stage match. Additionally, such replacements must be approved by Concacaf.

Following round-robin play (May 3-5), the first and second place finishers in each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal matches will be played on May 7, with the four winners qualifying for the semifinals of this competition and earning a spot in the FIFA Futsal World Cup. The semifinals and final will take place on May 8 and 9.

Fans will be able to follow all the matches on Concacaf’s partner networks, including TUDN (USA-Spanish), One Soccer (CAN), Teletica and Repretel (CRC), RTVG (Guatemala), TCS (SLV), Televicentro (HON), Medcom (PAN), Flow Sports (Caribbean-English) and other local partners.

Matches will also be available on the Concacaf Official App (subject to territory restrictions). The free mobile app is available in the Apple and Google Play stores.

The 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup was initially scheduled to take place in 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Bureau of the FIFA Council rescheduled the tournament September 12–October 3, 2021.
