U.S. WNT KICKS OFF FAN TRIBUTE TOUR AGAINST COSTA RICA: The U.S. Women’s National Team begins its Fan Tribute Tour on Saturday, Sept. 1, as the gold medal winners host Costa Rica at 2:30 p.m. ET at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y., the hometown of star striker Abby Wambach. The match will be broadcast live on NBC. Fans can follow the match via ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer_wnt. The U.S. WNT defeated 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Japan 2-1 in the gold medal game of the 2012 London Olympics on Aug. 9 in front of more than 80,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium.

Fan Tribute Tour Currently Spans Five Cities: In celebration of the team’s third straight gold medal and fourth overall, the USA embarks on the Fan Tribute Tour that currently consists of five scheduled matches in September and October. Further dates and locations will be announced. Following the Sept. 1 match in Rochester, N.Y., the team hosts Australia for two matches on Sept. 16 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., (3:30 p.m. ET, NBC) and Sept. 19 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., (10 p.m. ET, ESPN2 and ESPN3). U.S. Soccer also recently announced two matches against Germany, with an Oct. 20 game at Toyota Park in suburban Chicago and Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. Times and ticket information will be announced shortly.

USA vs. COSTA RICA SERIES
  • The U.S. is a perfect 8-0-0 against Costa Rica, with the series dating back to an 8-0 victory on June 25, 2000. The USA has never conceded a goal in the series, outscoring Costa Rica 37-0.
  • The last time the USA played Costa Rica, the team qualified for the 2012 London Olympics with a 3-0 win on Jan. 29 in the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament semifinal at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada. Tobin Heath’s 16th-minute goal was the game-winner, with Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan adding second-half goals. Two days later, the U.S. blanked host Canada 4-0 to win the last tournament.
  • The two sides have met in three Olympic qualifiers, with the USA also posting a 4-0 win on March 3, 2004, in San Jose, Costa Rica, and a 3-0 victory on April 9, 2008, in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

6th minute: Costa Rica hasn't seen much of the ball at all.

6th minute: Abby Wambach with a clever flick to Rapinoe on the edge of the box, but Miranda saves!

7th minute: Morgan in on goal, but Miranda is off her line quickly to stop the ball.

11th minute: USA possessing the ball well now, calming things down and looking to penetrate.

13th minute: After Wambach draws a foul on the edge of the box, Rapinoe steps up for a free kick.

GOAL! Rapinoe nails one that glances off the wall and hits the underside of the crossbar and in! 1-0 USA

16th minute: Heath sees a blast saved and Wambach heads just wide in back-to-back shots.

22nd minute: Wambach has seen two good chances saved recently. Costa Rica goalkeeper Erica Miranda has her hands full today. She has made SEVEN saves already.

24th minute: GOAL! Abby Wambach scores in front of the hometown fans finishing a cross from Rachel Buehler! 2-0 USA!

28th minute: Hope Solo makes her first save as Costa Rica tries one from distance.

32nd minute: GOAL! Wambach with another! She heads in a corner kick from Rapinoe for a 3-0 lead!

34th minute: Abby Wambach has a shot saved, the final shots/saves totals from this one are going to be interesting.

37th minute: Costa Rica trying to string together a couple passes, but is finding it tough to penetrate the USA defense.

38th minute: GOAL! Morgan shields off a defender after Wambach flicks a header to her and loops it over the keeper. 4-0 USA!

45th minute: GOAL! Megan Rapinoe blasts one from 20 yards out and the goalkeeper gets a glove on it, but it trickles into the goal. 5-0 USA!

HALFTIME! What a half. 5-0 USA!

Halftime subs for USA: Sauerbrunn for Buehler, Mitts for LePeilbet, and O'Reilly for Boxx.

52nd minute: Slow start to the second half for the USA as Costa Rica maintains some possession.

55th minute: USA subs Rodriguez on for Rapinoe and Loyden for Solo.

56th minute: O'Reilly puts a shot over the bar.

With Solo's sub her consecutive minutes played streak ends at 1,163, a record among #USWNT goalkeepers.

62nd minute: Lloyd springs a counterattack after a Costa Rica corner kick, but smashes a shot over the crossbar.

64th minute: Costa Rica sub 15-Benavides replaces 9-Herrera

72nd minute: Abby Wambach receives a standing ovation from the crowd as she's replaced by Sydney Leroux.

74th minute: Leroux called for a foul inside the box as she rises for a header. The US has pressed more in the attack in the last few minutes.

77th minute: GOAL! Leroux makes it 6-0 on a nice through pass from Morgan!

81st minute: Less than 10 minutes remaining here and the U.S. remains in total control.

84th minute: GOAL! Carli Lloyd curls a free kick over the wall and into the net! 7-0 USA!

89th minute: GOAL! Heather O'Reilly gets in on the fun, finishing a pass across the box from Leroux! 8-0 USA!
