Mexico and Canada Fall in Opening Day Group A Action

The glory of the Gold Cup is that no team or result can be taken for granted, and the opening day of the 2013 edition certainly added conviction to that adage.

In the first match, what looked to be a stalemate between Martinique and Canada got upended with just 15 seconds left in the third minute of second half stoppage time when Fabrice Reuperne ripped a shot from 25 yards out that sailed past Canada 'keeper Milan Borjan to secure a 1-0 win.

That result set the stage for Panama's stunner, as goals from two goals from Manuel Torres paced the Marea Roja to a 2-1 victory against Mexico and its first victory against El Tri in Gold Cup history.

We'll see what surprises are in store today when El Salvador meets Trinidad & Tobago and Haiti faces Honduras at Red Bull Arena.
