Rimando got his first cap against El Salvador and started in the team's last meeting
- The U.S. owns an overwhelming 15-1-5 advantage in the lifetime series dating back to 1977. The U.S. has scored 47 goals and posted 11 shutouts.
- The teams have met four times in the Gold Cup (1996, 2002, 2003, 2007), the United States winning all the matches by shutout.
- Only one of the four meetings came in the knockout phase. Brian McBride posted a hat trick as the U.S. won 4-0 in the quarterfinal en route to the 2002 title.
- In the 2007 edition, DaMarcus Beasley scored a pair and Landon Donovan and Taylor Twellman added one each in the 4-0 win on June 12 in Foxborough, Mass.
- Nick Rimando earned his first cap for the National Team in the USA’s 2-0 win against El Salvador on Nov. 17, 2002, in Washington, D.C.
- He also started in the last match between the teams, a 2-1 on Feb. 24, 2010, in Tampa. Kyle Beckerman and Clarence Goodson also joined the first XI that day.
- A total of eight players on the roster have at least one cap against El Salvador. Donovan leads all with seven appearances, and both he and Beasley have two goals apiece.
- Donovan wore the captain’s armband for the first time when he led the team in the 2-0 win in World Cup qualifying on Oct. 9, 2004, at Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador.
