During the USA's recent training camp in Princeton, U.S. U-17 Women's National Team captain Morgan Andrews was named the 2011-12 Gatorade National Girls' Soccer Player of the Year, and she got a special surprise when U.S. WNT defender Ali Krieger showed up at her school in Milford, N.H. to present her with the award. Krieger, who was visiting with her teammates and doing rehab with U.S. trainings, left camp to travel to N.H. to help present Andrews with that monster trophy. Andrews is first student-athlete from New Hampshire to earn the national honor.

Andrews helped lead the USA to the title at the CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship in Guatemala in May and will lead the team to the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan from Sept. 22-Oct. 13.

Andrews played every minute of every game as the holding midfielder for the USA and the FC Stars of Massachusetts product scored her lone goal of the tournament on a blistering free kick in the 7-0 win over Panama in the semifinals, a game that earned the USA its World Cup berth.

Andrews has played in the U.S. National Team program since she was 12 years old and was the youngest player called into a U.S. Under-23 National Team training camp last fall, playing with and against college and pro players. She is playing this summer for the New England Mutiny of the new WPSL Elite.

Andrews, who is a rising senior, is a three-sport athlete at Milford. She plays soccer, runs track and is the place-kicker for the football team, earning First-Team All-State honors. In soccer, she is a three-time all-state selection with 83 goals and added 35 assists.
