Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinal Matchups and Schedule Confirmed


The Concacaf Champions League is an international competition featuring the top clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

A total of 230 teams from all across North America compete for the right to play in the Concacaf Champions League.

The Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) today confirmed the matchups and schedule for the quarterfinals of the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. The four-quarterfinal home-and-away series will take place March 10-12 and 17-19, 2020.

Round of 16 action culminated on Thursday night, in the west coast of the United States, with Los Angeles FC (USA) and CD Olimpia (HON) joining Club America (MEX), Tigres UANL (MEX), Montreal Impact (CAN), New York City FC (USA), Cruz Azul FC (MEX) and Atlanta United FC (USA) in the second round of the region’s premier competition for clubs.

The round of 16 return leg matches saw another incredible week of football in the region. On Tuesday night, Gonzalo Martinez led Atlanta United FC to a 3-0 victory over Honduran club Motagua FC (4-1 aggregate), while Cruz Azul took care of business against Jamaican club Portmore United with a 4-0 win (6-1 aggregate).

Four matches took place on Wednesday. In New York, an Alex Callens header was enough to lift New York City FC to a 1-0 victory over AD San Carlos (6-3 aggregate), followed by Montreal Impact holding off Deportivo Saprissa to a 0-0 draw and advancing to the next round by virtue of their two away goals (2-2 aggregate).

In Monterrey, Tigres GK Nahuel Guzman scored in the final seconds to earn Tigres a 4-2 win over Alianza (5-4 aggregate) and Club America, in Mexico City, squeezed out a 5-3 penalty shootout victory versus Comunicaciones (2-2 aggregate).

The two last matches took place Thursday night. Carlos Vela scored a brace to lead Los Angeles FC to a thrilling 3-0 win over Club Leon (3-2 aggregate) and Honduran club Olimpia defeated the Seattle Sounders 4-2 in a penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw (4-4 aggregate).

Per the competition regulations, the clubs who have advanced from Round of 16 matchups 1, 3, 5 and 7 will host the return leg quarterfinals. For the semifinals and finals, the competition bracket will determine the matchups and the clubs will be ranked as per the competition regulations to determine who will host the return leg matches.

The semifinals, to be disputed among the four quarterfinal winners, are planned for Apr 7-9 and 14-16, followed by the first leg final on Apr 28-30. The decisive return leg final will be played May 5-7, 2020.

The 2020 edition of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League is played in a direct elimination knockout format, with home-and-away matches in each of the four rounds (round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals). The winner of the elite club competition will earn the right to represent the Confederation in the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup and will replace Rayados de Monterrey as the regional champion.

Fans will be able to enjoy all the action through the Confederation’s partner networks, including FOX Sports (USA-English), TUDN (USA-Spanish), Fox Sports Latin America (Mexico), ESPN (Central America), TSN and RDS (Canada), Flow Sports (Caribbean) and other local partners.

For other territories, the event will be available on the Concacaf Official App (subject to territory restrictions). The free mobile app is available in the iTunes and Google Play stores.
