Although all eyes are on the Olympics, there is some interesting Women's World Cup news to report.
As the Women’s World Cup is moving from 16 to 24 teams for the first time for the 2015 tournament in Canada, that of course means eight more teams will make the Women's World Cup.
FIFA has determined who gets the new berths, and here it is:

South America got half a slot more.

CONCACAF got 1.5 more (although the host confederation sometimes gets an extra, so that could change in 2019). There will be a playoff between 4th in CONCACAF and third in South America so CONCACAF could theoretically have five teams in 2015.
Europe got three more, giving the continent eight total.
Asia got two more.
Africa got one more.
Oceania stays the same, of course.

Here is the overall breakdown:
Asia: 5 slots
Africa: 3 slots
CONCACAF: 3.5 slots
South America: 2.5 Slots
Oceania: 1 Slot
Europe: 8 Slots
HOST: 1 Slot (Canada)

In the 32-team men’s FIFA World Cup, 13 of the 32 teams are from Europe. That’s 40%.
In the Women’s World Cup, 8 of 24 are from Europe. That’s 33%.

Ok, back to the Olympics.
