The U.S. WNT had its first full day off in Sweden on Wednesday and the players took full advantage, strolling through the city center, doing some shopping, making hair and nail appointments or just plain chill-axin'.

In the late afternoon, a bunch of players took the opportunity for a beautiful scenic boat ride around Gothenburg and then through the canals, learning much about the city and its history from their very informed guide. The team even had the chance to go through a 100-year-old canal lock, which raised their boat up more than a few feet in elevation before continuing on the journey.

The boat dropped the team off at Liseberg Amusement Park, [FONT=georgia, palatino]which actually opened in 1923 and was chosen as one of the top ten amusement parks in the world in 2005 by Forbes Magazine. The players had a bit of fun at the park and some stayed for the Lenny Kravitz concert that night, but several also hurried back to the hotel to catch the Germany-Holland game. Farewell, Oranje.

During the boat ride through the canals, it became apparent that Gothenburg has some extremely low bridges, requiring that the U.S. players almost lie down in the boat to get under them. One particularly low bridge is nicknamed "the cheese grater," and Alex Morgan couldn't quite believe how low it was (see below).
