The first full day of the January camp is in the books as the players begin to transition from offseason workouts to the more rigorous demands of getting ready for an international match in a little more than two weeks time. The coaching staff has implemented a gradual approach for the first couple days to get the players' bodies accustomed to the workload. So what does the first day look like?
The morning consisted of two stations - the first took place in the performance center and consisted of a series of core training exercises, while in the "classroom" the players participated in a nutrition workshop and received instruction on areas like plating, proper portioning and the benefits of different foods for professional athletes.
In the afternoon, three different groups underwent a 45-minute pilates session before finishing with a cool down. "This is a great way to get the camp started," said Chris Wondolowski. "Everyone came into camp fit, and this gives you a chance to get your body acclimated for when the hard work begins. We're excited and anxious to get going."
Stay tuned for a Studio 90 review of the opening of January camp in which U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann and players talk about their goals for the upcoming month.
