Goalkeeper Parker Siegfried joins Sporting KC on Loan

Parker Siegfried, 24, has joined Sporting for the 2021 season on a semi-guaranteed contract loan for the year. Siegfried is an MLS Academy product who trained at Columbus Crew SC as a youth.

USL SOCCER NEWS: Prior to kickoff of the new Major League Soccer (MLS) season, Sporting Kansas City has announced the signing of goalkeeper Parker Siegfried on loan from USL Championship side Louisville City FC. Sporting KC acquired Siegfried’s college protected rights from New York City FC in exchange for a natural 2023 MLS SuperDraft third round pick.

Sporting Kansas City is two-time MLS Cup Champions (2000, 2013) and four-time winners of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (2004, 2012, 2015, 2017).

Siegfried joins Sporting KC for 2021 along with Tim Melia, who is currently suffering from injury, and 19-year-old John Pulskamp, who will be starter in the club’s season opener on Saturday, April 24, against the NY Red Bulls. Melia will miss the first few weeks of the season and is not expected to be at the season opener.

A native of Granville, Ohio, Siegfried developed at the Columbus Crew SC Academy and represented the United States at the U14, U15 and U18 youth international levels. He then embarked on a successful college career at Ohio State University, where he logged 72 career appearances and climbed to fourth on the school’s all-time shutout chart with 18 clean sheets.

During his time at Ohio State, Siegfried also played two seasons for amateur club Asheville City SC in the National Premier Soccer League.

New York City FC selected Siegfried with the 74th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, but he did not sign with the club. He spent the first half of 2020 in USL League One with South Georgia Tormenta FC before joining Detroit City FC where he helped the team to the National Independent Soccer Association fall title last October. In March, Siegfried signed for two-time USL Cup champion Louisville following a preseason trial with the team.
