Meal Planning

At the end of today's lunch, the players got a lesson in meal planning from performance nutritionist Danielle Lafata - which is something we could all use!

Having gathered the results of the nutrition evaluations, she tailored an individual program for each athlete based on their goals. They were given a laminated card detailing the amount of proteins, grains, fruits and fat they should consume at each meal, and then a cheat sheet on serving and portion size of a variety of foods.

She then took them through the exercise of planning meals for a single day, which drew some interesting responses - who knew one guy likes carrots and raw onions mixed? The players were pretty engaged, and overall they came away with a common sense understanding of how their food choices can benefit their performance. Guys like Kyle Beckerman swear by it, and he has the results to prove it.
