LISRA Congratulates Its Six Scholarship Recipients

New York Soccer News: The LISRA Scholarship Program just completed its 40th year

The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) has a Scholarship Program as do five of our member leagues: Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL), Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL), East Hudson Youth Soccer League (EHYSL), Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) and the Staten Island Youth Soccer League (SIYSL).

But did you realize that the largest referee association in Eastern New York, the Long Island Soccer Referee Association (LISRA), also has a Scholarship Program? It was founded in 1981, the same year that the Scholarship Program was started in the LIJSL, the league that LISRA serves. So 2020 is the 40th year of both programs.

Congratulations to the 2020 LISRA Scholarship Recipients:

Jordan Albanese from George W. Hewlett High School
Nicholas Carter from Chaminade High School
Sasha Doe from Islip High School
Julian Franco Jr. from West Babylon High School
• Adam Parente from Sachem East High School
• Scott Thorley from Eastport/South Manor High School

“LISRA’s Scholarship Committee makes recommendations based on the essay they submit as to why they would like to receive the scholarship, three letters of recommendations from teachers, employers, clergy or friends, their resume, grades and the overall impression of the scholarship application they submit,” explained Scholarship Committee Chairperson Jean-Marie Maio.

The scholarships, for high school seniors moving on to college, are open to members of LISRA in good standing and their children. They are funded by LISRA member dues as well as raffle proceeds from the monthly referee meetings.

Members are affiliated with nine leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees, and administrators.
