After a thrilling, but somewhat disappointing 3-3 tie with Germany in front of a fantastic crowd in Offenbach, Germany on April 5, the U.S. team traveled to the Netherlands on Saturday, taking what turned out to be an almost six-hour bus ride (there's traffic everywhere in the world) northwest to The Hague.
The Hague is the capital city of the province of South Holland and is third-largest city of the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. While Amsterdam is the Dutch capital, The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and parliament, the Supreme Court and the Council of State.
The USA will face the Dutch on April 9 at 7 p.m. local / 1 p.m. ET in a match broadcast live on ESPNW.com and ESPN3.com and presented by ESPNW.
The match against the Netherlands will be just the sixth meeting between the two countries, the first since 2006 and the first in Holland since 1991, which was the USA’s only loss of the series, a 4-3 setback in Vianen. The match in 2006 took place at the Peace Queen Cup in South Korea, a 2-0 U.S. victory.
The USA is 4-1-0 all-time against the Netherlands with four consecutive shutouts by a combined 16 goals after losing the first match in the series 4-3.
The match will be played at Kyocera Stadium, home to ADO Den Haag of the Dutch top flight, and seats 15,000 fans. It was built in 2007.
