The U.S. U-17 WNT opened the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup by battling France to a 0-0 draw in front of more than 8,000 fans in Lankaran, Azerbaijan and certainly worked extremely hard for the valuable point.

While North Korea got a HUGE leg up on advancing to the quarterfinals with a 11-0 thrashing of Gambia, the group is still wide open with the Americans facing Gambia on Sept. 25 and then the powerful North Koreans on Sept. 29.

Two captains, two number 10s battle: Morgan Andrews and Sandie Toletti
While France certainly had a more of the match today, both in ball possession and chances, and piled up an impressive shot total, only four or five of their 12 shots on goal troubled U.S. 'keeper Jane Campbell while the USA launched quite a few dangerous attacks, but couldn't turn them into shots. That is something the U.S. team plans to remedy in the next two matches and the squad is in good spirits as its heads north to the capital city of Baku tomorrow for its final two group matches.

The U.S. team will have just two days of rest before facing the Gambians, and one of those is a travel day, but everyone is looking forward to getting to the cosmopolitan city of Baku. The people Lankaran, a small city in the southern part of the country that has a population of just more than 80,000, have been extremely friendly and hospitable, but it will be an entirely different experience in Baku, which has more than 2 million residents.

On to Baku!
