Before the U.S. U-20 WNT began training today, they were officially welcomed to Hiroshima by some students from Hiroshima University who presented each player with a necklace made of red, white and blue origami cranes.
The students read the U.S. team a story -- in English -- about the history of Hiroshima and the significance of the origami cranes in Japanese culture before placing the necklaces around the neck of each player.
Folks, it just doesn't get much nicer than that. How much work did it take to fold and assemble origami crane necklaces for 21 players? We're thinking a lot, and what a nice gift it was.
Not coincidentally, the origami crane is also on the official FIFA logo for the tournament.
