- MLS has 11 of 19 clubs represented on the roster, with the Houston Dynamo (Will Bruin, Brad Davis and Tally Hall) and Sporting Kansas City (Matt Besler, Benny Feilhaber and Graham Zusi) leading the way with three players each. Brad Evans, Eddie Johnson and Jeff Parke played together with the Seattle Sounders in 2012 before Parke was traded to the Philadelphia Union in the offseason.
- Kyle Beckerman has played 11 times since Klinsmann took the helm, the Real Salt Lake captain starting in seven of those matches.
- Three players were MLS Best XI selections in 2012. Wondolowski received the honor for the third time in his career, while Sporting Kansas City teammates Besler and Zusi received the honor for the first time.
- Omar Gonzalez and Besler are the last two MLS Defender of the Year award recipients.
- Five players formerly competed in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy: forwards Agudelo (New York Red Bulls) and Bruin (St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri), midfielder Gatt (Michigan Wolves), defender Connor Lade (New York Red Bulls) and goalkeeper Bill Hamid (D.C. United).
- The U.S. has played Canada 31 times, representing its second-most frequent opponent ahead of Costa Rica (29 games) and behind Mexico (60 games).
- The USA is 13-8-10 overall against Canada, with one match played on a neutral site – a 3-0 U.S. loss on Dec. 22, 1976, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
- The U.S. has done exceptionally well against Canada for the past two decades and is in the midst of a 15-game unbeaten streak (8-0-7) since the USA dropped a 2-0 decision to Canada on April 2, 1985, in Vancouver.
