Ideas From A Professional Player & Coach

Brian Farber is a top professional soccer player, one of the best trainers of youth soccer players and an inventive designer of soccer training products at SKLZ.

While there is a moratorium on soccer practices, trainings, and games because of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, SoccerToday has reached out to top coaches and players around the country for their ideas on what players can do during this youth soccer practice hiatus.

Brian Farber is a professional soccer player who played in the MLS for both the Portland Timbers and the Houston Dynamo and is currently a star on the San Diego Sockers who just finished his tenth season. Farber is a top goal-scoring midfielder.

Brian Farber’s advice for youth soccer players:

“It is simple. We (soccer players) always say that if we didn’t have training or if we had the weekend off from games we could work on …”

“We all know our weaknesses. For some players, it might be their first touch, or perhaps their field vision. Maybe one foot it weaker or not reliable,” said Farber. “There are many reasons soccer players of all ages become more predictable and less dynamic. Now, we have a break and we should use this time to work on our weaknesses”

“Right now, every player in the country should be working on those known weaknesses so they can come back stronger.”

“If they know it’s a weakness, then odds are so does the coach, and if they work on it and show their coach what they were doing then he or she will have more confidence in that player’s ability,” said Farber.

“And, that player will become a more confident player and we all know that confidence is massive in this game.”

Off the field, and outside of the arena, Farber is the head of the global soccer line for SKLZ and designs soccer-specific training products.

A professional player with an impressive record — Farber has scored so far 223 goals and 122 assists in 215 career games earning four first-team honors and one MVP — he knows what helps players advance to the next level. And, in specific, Farber knows how to help players work on their weaknesses.

“This is literally the reason for most of our products, player development on their own or with specialty trainers who can evaluate and address the weaknesses one at a time,” added Farber.
