There may not have been a more memorable draw in U.S. Soccer history. Coming off the heels of a 3-2 win against Honduras that saw the USA through to the World Cup, the team needed only a point to finish first place in the group. For Costa Rica, a victory would mean a trip to South Africa.
Going down two after a pair of goals from Bryan Ruiz, the U.S. climbed back with a goal from Michael Bradley to within one. Oguchi Onyewu went down with a knee injury that reduced the U.S. to 10 men, setting the stage for the finish from unlikely goalscorer Jonathan Bornstein in the 95th minute to send RFK Stadium into a frenzy.
