Former WPSL Player Signs 3-Year Deal With New Jersey’s NWSL Team


After a breakout performance in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe signs a multi-year contract with Sky Blue FC.

The Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) is the largest women’s soccer league in the world and a stepping stone for many world-class professionals. Now in its 22nd season, the WPSL has become a respected and proven pathway for many players to hone their skills and become professional soccer players.

WPSL’s alumni, Jennifer Cudjoe, is now one of the latest players to sign a multi-year contract. Cudjoe recently signed with Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League.

Cudjoe had signed a short-term contract with the New Jersey-based club and played in all six Sky Blue matches of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. With a terrific, breakout performance in the tournament, Cudjoe earned the multi-year offer. According to NWSL’s release, During Cudjoe’s 368 minutes in the Challenge Cup, she completed 128 passes with an 80.5% completion rate.

The midfielder from Ghana had secured her first contract and spot on the roster through an open tryout.

“There’s definitely a spark about her, something different, she was really aggressive,” said Freya Coombe, Sky Blue FC’s Head Coach during an NWSL interview.

“You could just tell how much the tryout meant to her – she stood out for that reason.”

Cudjoe made her NWSL debut on June 30 in the 60th minute during a match versus OL Reign.

Sky Blue FC would eventually be eliminated in the Semi-Finals by the Chicago Red Stars.

Cudjoe earned first-team positions with Ghana’s U17 and U20 World Cup teams and was named Female Football Player of the Year in 2015 by Ghana’s Sports Writers Association.

During her time with the Women’s Premier Soccer League, Cudjoe played the 2016 and 2017 seasons with California Storm and the 2018 and 2019 seasons with Asheville City SC.

The WPSL strives to provide the highest level of development opportunities for amateur players in America.
