Jurgen Klinsmann is hot on the trail of a player that comes from a country that’s known for being cold.

Aron Johannsson is an Icelandic American striker and now teammate of Jozy Altidore at AZ Alkmaar. Before moving to Holland in January, Johannsson lit up the Danish Superliga by scoring 14 goals in 18 games for AGF Aarhus.

Just 22 years old, Johansson has the option to play for the MNT, and Klinsmann has declared his intention to have the talented striker in the picture sooner rather than later.

“He’s coming off an injury at the moment, and we want to have him with us in the near future.” Klinsmann said.

After transferring from AGF Aarhus from Denmark in late January, Johannsson has three goals in six appearances with AZ Alkmaar.

Born in Mobile, Ala., Johannsson moved back to Iceland at the age of 3, then returned to the United States for a year to play for the IMG Academy in the inaugural 2007-08 season of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, an experience he described as “the best year of my life.”

Having represented Iceland at the U-21 level in official competition, Johannsson would have to apply for a change of association in order to represent the United States. For Klinsmann, it appears that change can’t come soon enough.
