Capital District Youth Soccer League Names Its 4 Scholarship Recipients
New York Soccer News: The scholarship program kicked off in 2004.
Two girls from Vorheesville who were teammates at Clayton A. Bouton High School are among the four scholarship recipients of the Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL). The award is based on success in high school as well as community service.
The CDYSL Scholarship Program has been in existence since 2004. Congratulations to these four outstanding teens:
Amanda Gillenwalters of Voorheeseville graduated from Clayton A. Bouton High School where she played soccer for the past six years, becoming the leading goal scorer on her varsity team and ending regular season play as a Top 10 Section II goal scorer. She also played for Greenbush Soccer Club for the past 10 years. She finished her high school soccer career as team captain for both her teams. Her essay expressed the importance of teamwork which has helped her in many facets of her life. This fall, she will be attending Binghamton University where she will be majoring in English and continuing to play soccer.
Cayden Smith of Voorheeseville graduated from Clayton A. Bouton High School, playing soccer there for three years and competing for the New Scotland Soccer Club for the past eight years. In her essay, she described how soccer gave her confidence in her abilities as a player and leader. This fall, Cayden will be attending Hobart and William Smith Colleges as a biology major on a pre-veterinary track. She also plans to join the club equestrian team and the club soccer team.
Troy’s Tyler Trahan studied at LaSalle Institute where he was a member of both the JV and varsity soccer teams. He also played for the Brunswick Soccer Club for the past 13 years. Soccer has taught Tyler to be a positive person who tries to encourage people. The leadership skills and discipline he learned through soccer has helped him lead successful fundraisers in school. He wrote about his experiences fundraising over $15,000 for the American Cancer Society to support breast cancer research over the past two years. Tyler will be attending the University of South Carolina as a Finance major and as a member of their Capstone Scholars program.
Jared Meisel of Rensselaer graduated from Columbia High School and played for five years with Greenbush Soccer Club. During his soccer career, he was captain of his varsity team. Soccer has given Jared invaluable leadership skills and the opportunity to play with people he may have not met otherwise. Some of his teammates are refugees from Myanmar, whose plight has been extremely influential on Jared’s choice in career paths. This influenced him to volunteer with the RISSE (Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus) after-school program. He will be attending Notre Dame this fall.
Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association: With 100,000 youth soccer players–both boys and girls–and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) reaches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with nine leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees, and administrators.
