The U.S. Women’s National Team once again remained atop the FIFA Women’s World Rankings after the dramatic run to the Olympic gold medal at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
The USA strengthened its grip at the top with a run of nine consecutive wins -- six at the Olympics -- and have earned a points total just short of their all-time high of 2233 in May 2010 and the overall record of 2234 set by Germany in 2005.
Germany, which missed out on the Olympics, remains in second place and Olympic runners-up Japan are in third.
After being knocked out of the Olympic tournament at the quarter-final stage, Sweden have been overtaken by Brazil and France. Italy is back in the top ten following Korea DPR’s drop of three places.

The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be published on December 7, 2012.
