Christen Press, at full gallop, has scored in four different games this year
Here's a few things to know (if you don't already, and if you are a super fan of the WNT, your probably already do) to get you ready for the USA-Canada match on Sunday, June at BMO Field.
- The USA-Canada match will be broadcast live on ESPNews at 4:30 p.m. ET. It will be the USA’s first match in Toronto since May 25, 2009, a 4-0 U.S. victory at BMO Field. Fans can also follow along on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and on Twitter at @ussoccer_WNT.
- U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni will name 18 players to suit up for the game from the 21 that are currently training in Canada.
- Abby Wambach is on 155 goals and is just three away from tying Mia Hamm on the world's all-time scoring list. Canada's Christine Sinclair comes into the game with 145 career goals, meaning the duo has scored exactly 300 goals between them.
- The USA’s quartet of forwards – Alex Morgan, Abby Wambach, Christen Press and Sydney Leroux – has scored 15 of the USA’s 24 goals so far in 2013, led by Press with a team-high six goals.
- With one more goal, Carli Lloyd will tie Tisha Venturini for 10th place on the USA’s all-time goal scoring list at 44 career goals. Lloyd will likely make her return to international play for the first time since breaking her shoulder against Iceland on March 6.
- U.S. captain Christie Rampone is currently the second most-capped player in U.S. history and the most capped active player in the world with 280 career games played.
- Heather O’Reilly, who is 10 years younger than Rampone, is the second most capped player on the roster with 185 games played.
- The USA will be without two key players in Shannon Boxx (recovery from knee surgery) and Megan Rapinoe (club dutie with French champion Lyon).
- Midfielder Amber Brooks is the only uncapped player on the 21 player training camp roster. She co-captained the USA in New Zealand at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, a tournament which saw the young Americans advance to the final of the first FIFA tournament for that age group before falling to North Korea, 2-1, in overtime. Brooks was also a starter for the USA at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany.
- The USA is ranked #1 in the world. Canada is tied for #7 with England.
- The USA is 6-0-2 in 2013. Canada is 4-3-2 in the 2013.
