Major League Soccer adds 19 clubs to elite player development platform

Major League Soccer announced on Tuesday the addition of 19 youth soccer clubs from across the United States into its newly created elite youth development platform, taking the total number of participating academies to 113 and encompassing over 11,000 players.

Now included in the participating clubs are 30 professional MLS academies, 5 USL academies and 78 additional elite academies. The platform launched in May after the U.S. Soccer Development Academy was shut down, with MLS taking the lead in elite youth development in the United States and Canada.

Arizona Youth Soccer Enters Phase 4 – Competitive Games With Less Than 50 Spectators

The long-awaited return of youth soccer is finally here … in Arizona. Progress is possible, even in areas that only weeks ago reported record numbers of confirmed cases of the Coronavirus COVID-19.

Gone are the days of a crowded sideline and players hugging in groups after a goal, but at least competitive games in the state of Arizona will start being played after a long suspension due to the Coronavirus COVID-19.

US Youth Soccer’s Arizona Soccer Association (ASA) has moved to Phase IV of the state’s of our Return-to-Play guidelines effective August 17.

The entire Arizona Soccer Association and its member have continued to demonstrate their commitment to minimizing the spread of the pandemic, and returning to play in a methodical manner — and, are now able to benefit from all their efforts.

New Study Finds Limited Coronavirus Transmission During Youth Soccer Activities In San Diego

While the CDC warns that children are at risk for COVID-19, new study offers path forward for San Diego County to safely reopen outdoor youth sports. Out of 143,000 soccer sessions analyzed, the rate was .01% with all new confined cases traced to transmission outside the youth soccer group.

Today Surf Cup Sports has released the results of an eight-week study analyzing the safety of outdoor youth soccer in San Diego County.

You Are My “Giants”

SoccerToday takes great pleasure in welcoming Kristi Beckman as a new columnist with this refreshing and personal take on being a female in a still male-dominated soccer world.

Isaac Newton says, “If I have seen further … it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
In my coaching career, I have stood on the “shoulders of giants for years”. Those giants were always men: men who were brave enough and secure enough to elevate a woman.

These are interesting times for us all. I find myself defending men when your entire gender is called male chauvinists, or accused of being bullies. I smile sweetly and say, “Not my guys!” I’m smart, and I have surrounded myself with the best leaders and humans in the industry. You.

Both male and female coaches often reach a point during their career where they question, “Why do I coach?”...
