380 Eastern New York ODP Players Receive Tactical Training Through a Virtual Coaching Session

New York Soccer News: The video presentations will continue until team training is allowed once again

With the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) obviously not being able to schedule any training sessions for our Olympic Development Program (ODP) because of the coronavirus outbreak, we started a series of Virtual Coaching sessions this past Monday night, March 23. The first video presentation of a professional game, on Zoom, was a tactical session about defensive pressing with possession from the back scheduled for next Monday night, March 30 and other sessions on goalkeeping and psychology already in the works.

“The defensive pressing session was conducted by Gary Book, our Technical Director, who did an outstanding job,” commented ODP Director Jim Volpe. “We started at 7:00 pm and by 7:05, I was already receiving e-mails from people who couldn’t log in because we had already passed the 300 person maximum allotted to us. We were able to regroup on the fly and get a second invitation out for a rerun at 8:00 pm which Gary was gracious enough to do. All in all, we reached over 380 players.”

The ODP coaches have already started to follow up the session with e-mails to their teams and are offering guidance plus getting reactions from their players. The Directors of Coaching are also contacting their coaches, soliciting feedback on each session.

The video sessions will continue until players are able to train as a team back on the field.

ODP is considered the highest level of competition in each state association. Eastern New York has a particularly strong ODP as our teams have won recent national championships plus Crystal Dunn and Allie Long are Eastern New York ODP graduates and Women’s World Cup champs.
