When the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup kicks off on Sept. 22, it will be ahistoric moment for women's football and for the country of Azerbaijan. It will be the first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup championship held in a predominantly Muslim country and will be hosted by a team that just a few years ago didn't exist.

The Azerbaijan U-17 Women's National Team has been built from scratch by former German international Silvia ‘Sissy’ Raith, and the organizers of this tournament are to be praised for the excitement and interest so far in the tournament. Click here to read the fascinating story about how she put together the team and their goals for the competition.
The USA's game, which takes place in the only stadium outside the capital city of Baku, may be a sell-out in the 12,000-seat Lankaran Stadium.
