Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor...would have enjoyed the two USA-Germany games
Well, if you attending either of the USA-Germany matches on Oct. 20 and 23, or watched on TV, it is likely you were. The top two teams in the FIFA Women's World Cup rankings played two crackling matches, the second in a steady rain in East Hartford, Ct., and at the end of the 180 minutes, three goals for each team was probably a fair result.

The crowds for both games were fantastic, a sell-out of more than 19,000 at Toyota Park and more than 18,000 despite the weather and mid-week kickoff at Rentschler Field.

Kelley O'Hara battles with Linda Bresonik
The Germans looked awfully good, and primed for another run at the European championships next summer when Pia Sundage's Sweden Women's National Team will be one of the major obstacles to yet another European crown. The USA put together some excellent soccer and several very nice goals despite the team only training together about five times since the end of the 2012 Olympics.

Carli Lloyd looks for a way around Kim Kulig
The U.S. team will have about give weeks off before the next match against Ireland on Nov. 28 at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, Ore., so the team will have to kick-start themselves again against the feisty Irish on an artificial turf surface in front of what surely will be a boisterous crowd.

Tickets are on slae now for the match in Portland as well as for the second leg of the two-game set with the Irish on Dec. 1 in Phoenix, Ariz.

If you live in the northwest or southwest, see you there!
