The USA and Germany played to a entertaining 1-1 draw in front of a sold-out crowd at Toyota Park on Oct. 20 as the Fan Tribute Tour presented by Panasonic continued. Of course, this was a wee bit more of a test (understatement alert) that the USA is perhaps used to on these post-world championship tours, but that made for a great game for the fans and the players.
The in-form Germans created several great scoring chances, but missed the frame on two and Hope Solo saved one breakaway while on the other end the Americans just missed a few of their own, including a Lauren Cheney volley that kissed the outside of the post and Carli Lloyd cross on the ground that just eluded the sliding Abby Wambach.
In the end, the teams both defender extremely and could manage just one goal a piece, but will get the chance to go out it again on Tuesday night at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. (7:30 p.m. on NBCSN).
