U.S. midfielder Mix Diskerud arrived last night into San Diego,making the group nearly complete. As the team awaits final word on the status of Joshua Gatt, the first full day of training is underway as the players going through fitness testing, including the taxing Vo2 Max test. The team will be back on the field this afternoon as the rhythm picks up towards the friendly against Guatemala on July 5 at Qualcomm Stadium. More than 15,000 tickets have already been sold for the only tuneup before the start of the Gold Cup.
Today also starts two days of filming with FOX, as the network ramps up its coverage for the Gold Cup. In addition to filming video identifications of all the players - think NFL style - there will be a series of get to know you interviews and a lengthy conversation between Jurgen Klinsmann and Gus Johnson. If the production of the matches is anything like the set-up we've seen so far, people are going to be pleasantly surprised.
