The U.S. has played three times at Rentschler Field, which has twice served as a host of matches in the Send-Off Series before the World Cup. Overall, the team is 2-1-0, posting two shutouts.

More than 25,000 fans turned out for the FIFA World Cup qualifier on Aug. 17, 2005, against Trinidad & Tobago, where they saw Brian McBride score an early goal while Kasey Keller kept the clean sheet in the 1-0 victory. A little more than two weeks later, the U.S. beat Mexico 2-0 in Columbus and qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

The following year the stadium got the USA’s final match on home soil before departing for Germany, and again McBride did the business at one end and Keller the other as the U.S. collected a 1-0 win against Latvia.

Four years later, Rentschler Field was the site of Send Off Series match against Czech Republic, the U.S. falling 4-2 in front of 36,218 fans. That game served as the final audition for spots on the World Cup roster, and in the early hours of May 26 the players were informed who would be traveling to South Africa. The 23-man squad was announced live on SportsCenter from the ESPN campus in Bristol.
