The U.S. WNT drew 1-1 with China in its second Group D match at the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on Aug. 23 which was not the result the young Americans wanted, but it still put the team in prime position to advance to the quarterfinals.
Maya Hayes has scored all four of the five U.S. goals so farThe USA needs a win or a tie against Germany on Aug. 27 at Miyaga Stadium in Rifu, Japan, to assure passage through to the quarterfinals, and even if the USA loses, China would have to make up a massive deficit in goal difference in defeating Ghana to overtake the USA. The USA is currently has four points and is at plus-four in goal difference while China has one point, but is at minus-4
A win against the Germans will send the USA through atop the group and earn a quarterfinal match against the second-place team from Group C. A draw will send the Germans through as Group winners and give the USA a match against the Group C champs, which is almost surely going to be North Korea.
The USA dominated China in every facet of the game besides the scoreboard and lost the chance to advance first out of the group with just a tie against Germany, which downed Ghana 1-0 with a last minute goal in stoppage time of the second half. But the group is still wide open and the match between the two two-time winners of this tournament should be one of the best and most entertaining of the tournament.
